ON Semiconductor has added three new high-resolution and low-noise imagers to its XGS image sensor family. Offering 12-bit image quality at a high frame rate, the new devices – the XGS 45000, XGS 30000, and XGS 20000 – provide high-resolution imaging with up to 45 megapixels (MP) for resolution critical applications and up to 60 frames per second (fps) in 8K video mode.

The company also introduced the 5.3-MP XGS 5000 with low-power performance and high image quality for compact 29 x 29 mm2 camera designs. In addition, 3-MP and 2-MP variants were released into production.

Suited for IoT applications such as machine vision and intelligent transportation systems (ITS), all XGS devices feature a 3.2-μm pixel size for high resolution together with an advanced pixel design for low-noise performance and improved image quality. In addition, the global shutter ensures that objects in motion will be captured without motion artifacts.

The company also recently introduced the AR0234CS 2.3-MP global shutter CMOS image sensor with a high dynamic range for machine-vision and mixed-reality applications.

The XGS devices use a common architecture, which allows one camera design to be easily developed with multiple resolutions, said the company. A range of development tools are available, including a demo kit with a hardware platform and DevSuite software. Also available is the X-Celerator platform, which includes public FPGA code and a direct interface to standard FPGA development environments including Xilinx and Altera.

ON Semi offers additional support for XGS devices up to 16 MP with the X-Cube platform 29 x 29 mm2 reference design that offers HiSPi-to-MIPI conversion via a Lattice FPGA as well as image capture, processing, and analysis using the DevSuite software.
